This architectural firm has been making its mark on Louisiana for more than seven decades, designing hospitals, schools, universities, recreational facilities, churches, retail buildings, restaurants, high-end and affordable housing alike, and more. The history of the Architectural firm currently known as Didier Architecture began in 1947 with the establishment of the firm by Mr. Lewis P. Manson. In 1964 Jerry Watts joined the firm and over the next 16 years showed the leadership qualities, architectural ability, and vision necessary to take the firm into the future. After 40 years in practice, Mr. Manson retired and handed the reigns of the firm over to Jerry in 1980, and the firm was renamed Jerry L. Watts & Associates two years later.
As Jerry continued to honor the firm’s established reputation, he actively sought out experienced, energetic and imaginative staff who shared his commitment to excellence. In 1996, Baton Rouge native Derryl Didier joined the company after launching a successful design career in Orlando, Fla. Jerry quickly saw the same qualities in Derryl that Mr. Manson once saw in him and in 2004 Derryl became a partner in the firm. The firm then evolved into Watts Didier Architects. In 2017, after 50 years in practice, Jerry retired, and the reigns were once again passed on. The firm remained Watts Didier Architects and continued to be guided under the astute leadership of Derryl. Working alongside and being mentored by Jerry for twenty years has equipped Derryl with the same qualities, abilities, and vision, to once again honor the firm’s established reputation and to carry the firm into its next seventy years. At the end of 2018, the firm relocated to Prairieville and rebrandied itself Didier Architecture. This rebranding better reflects our evolution as an architecture firm and our plans moving forward! |
